Biography

Dr. Kemal Akkaya is a full professor at Florida International University’s KF School of Computing and Information Sciences, with a courtesy Electrical and Computer Engineering appointment. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2005. Dr. Akkaya has held faculty positions at Southern Illinois University, The George Washington University, Airforce Research Lab, and the University of Florida Nelms Institute of Connected World. He leads the Advanced Wireless and Security Lab (ADWISE) and is the Research Director for FIU’s Emerging Preeminent Program in Cybersecurity. His research focuses on security, privacy, the Internet of Things, and cyber-physical systems, supported by agencies such as NSF, DoE, AFRL, and DHS. Dr. Akkaya is an IEEE Fellow with over 270 publications and more than 18,000 citations, holding a Google h-index of 53. He has received numerous accolades, including the FIU Faculty Senate Excellence in Research Award and the FIU Top Scholar Award, and holds eight patents.
