    Dr. Kenneth G. Furton is the executive director of the Global Forensic and Justice Center and the chief scientific officer at Florida International University. He is also a distinguished university professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and a leading expert in forensic chemistry, focusing on trace detection and olfaction. From 2007 to 2014, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, where he reorganized the college, raised $50M in philanthropic gifts, and doubled research funding. From 2014 to 2022, he was FIU’s provost, executive vice president, and chief operating officer, during which time he led significant improvements in student success and research output. His leadership helped double the four-year graduation rates, increase research expenditures to $250M annually, and achieve a Top 20 patent ranking. Under his guidance, FIU moved from #8 to #1 in Florida’s performance-based funding rankings and was recognized as the most improved R1 university by U.S. News. Dr. Furton has supervised over 140 students, secured more than $10 million in grants, and has 26 patents, 2 books, and 221 peer-reviewed publications with over 8,000 citations. He is a Phi Beta Kappa member and an elected fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
