Dr. M. Hadi Amini is an Assistant Professor at the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences at FIU and the founding director of the SOLID Lab. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2019. Dr. Amini’s research focuses on advanced machine learning algorithms, optimization, and their applications, with $3.6M in funding from various agencies. His interests include distributed machine learning, federated learning, interdependent networks, and cybersecurity, applied to smart cities, transportation, healthcare, and energy systems. A Senior Member of IEEE, he has published over 150 papers, authored or edited eight books, and received several awards, including the 2019 IEEE Best Paper Award and the 2021 Springer Nature Best Journal Paper Award. He also received FIU’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020.
Dr. M. Hadi Amini is currently serving as Director of sustainability, Optimization, and Learning for InterDependent Networks Laboratory (solid lab); Director and PI, ADvanced education and research for Machine learning-driven critical Infrastructure REsilience (ADMIRE) Center, Supported by the U.S. DHS Scientific Leadership Award; and Associate Director and FIU PI, National Center for Transportation Cybersecurity and Resiliency (TraCR), Supported by the U.S. DOT.
